STAY UP TO DATE WITH YOUR DIALYSIS NURSE

Why You Benefit from YDN

One of the ways in which YDN benefits both patients and those who work in the dialysis field or looking to work in this field is that I share a lot of information that's not normally shared outside the dialysis community. I think it's important to be informed. I've seen first hand how much of a toll it can take on families as well as a fellow co workers. Patients become family especially in an incenter setting and clinics are so understaffed that education is fast tracked and can often be overwhelming for someone brand new to the field.

Please take the time to explore the site and watch some videos that may be of some relevance to you.

Stay Informed

At YDN I will share, information, facts and topics related to dialysis. Enjoy a short video on the real agenda behind home dialysis and why it is being pushed in dialysis.

Advances In Dialysis Tech

Advances in technology pertaining to the dialysis field is exciting to witness and necessary. There are so many dialysis units, and companies being created at such a fast pace, it is something that's effecting more people and younger generations. It's important that dialysis should continue to be a field that is explored in regards to advances in technology to less impact ones normal daily routines, but also be a part of annual education from primary care physicians.

What is Hemodialysis

Hemodialysis is a medical process that uses a machine to clean your blood and remove fluids. There is an external kidney called a dialyzer that will filter your blood removing waste and fluids. People who need dialysis will die with out this process of filtering the blood.

How Important are your kidneys?

What is Peritoneal Dialysis?

PD uses the lining of your stomach called a peritoneal membrane to filter out waste and fluid when your kidneys are no longer doing the job. A catheter is placed into your abdomen so that the PD solution can go in and be removed. PD is done at home usually at night but can also be done during the day. Typically PD is done while you are sleep. It may sound scary or difficult at first but the advances in technology has made it very easy for patient to understand. Most machines walk you through your steps with an animation on the screen. You have a nurse on call 24/7 which turns out to be very helpful.

Learn More About PD

Check out my PD educational series on youtube. Together let's learn the basics of PD and apply them!  You don't need to be a nurse to know how to take care of yourself or understand dialysis better.
